NFL Season Concludes, Tops Sportsbook Betting Options on New Year’s Day

It is indeed a very happy New Year today, as a full round of NFL Football kicks off today, to finalize what has been another exciting and unpredictable 2011-12 NFL regular season! While football fans, and fans of online sports betting as a whole take a break from the madness of NCAA Football’s College bowl season, Sunday welcomes folks back into a great set of wagers for today’s NFL action, as a number of teams look to secure their place in this year’s playoffs, while a handful of teams already in the hunt look to shore up home field advantage, or gain an advantageous bye through the first round of postseason play. With so much on the line in divisional match-ups to close out the regular season, it’s without a doubt you’ll want to join me at one of the top online sportsbooks to grab a taste of some of the best betting lines available for the best match-ups of the day. We’re starting off a new year at Betonline Sportsbook, which has been one of my most favorite sports betting destinations over the past 365 days. With one of the fastest, cleanest online sportsbooks in the business, count on Betonline to be a great place to put down your first wagers on the new year, and be in and out in no time with simple methods for deposit, solid customer service if needed, and a user-friendly layout for betting lines on just about every sporting event around the world on a given day.

For NFL Football Week 17 wagers, a number of critical match-ups should make for exciting wagers at Betonline Sportsbook today, starting with few early games set for Sunday. First, the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers clash at Lambeau Field, with the Packers secured in their playoff positioning while the Lions look to jump up into a 5th seed in the NFC playoff picture. With Green Bay likely resting a number of starters tonight, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers, it’s no surprise to see Detroit as a big favorite to win, at -6 points against the spread and -265 odds to win. What I like most about the game today is the low over/under at 41 points. With Green Bay resting starters against a very prolific scoring offense in the Lions, this game is well primed to bust out over the 41 point margin, for the best looking wager on this contest. Secondly for today, we turn to a critical match-up for the New York Jets against the Miami Dolphins, with the Jets needing a win and help to get into the postseason after a pair of losses down the stretch cost them their own playoff destiny. Miami isn’t even an underdog for the game today at home, and for good reason with the Jets 2-5 on the road this year, and looking awfully shaky on defense with a quarterback Mark Sanchez who seems to keep getting worse in each game down the home stretch. I’m taking Miami to cover the points spread at home tonight at -3 (-105 odds), and for the cocky, arrogant and overconfident Rex Ryan-led Jets to fall short of the playoffs this year.

Next up on the NFL docket for afternoon games, the New England Patriots seek to shore up home field advantage throughout the playoff with a win at home over Buffalo, which should come without much difficulty against the reeling Bills. With weak options against the spread and money line here as New England is a huge favorite to win, I’ll turn once again to the over/under, set at 49 points, which again should be busted through with a high-powered New England offense on the field, and a poor set of defenses that give up plenty of points through the air especially. Looking for a few further afternoon NFL games worth betting on, catch a tie-up in the AFC North with Baltimore and Pittsburgh, with both teams in action today and needing wins against the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns respectively. Baltimore on one side has struggled on the road this year, and at Cincinnati, and could risk losing the AFC North title with a loss, while Pittsburgh looks secure in picking up its 14th win in 15 tries against the lowly Cleveland Browns. Expect a good fight from the Browns at home especially with Ben Roethlisberger likely to see rest with his lingering ankle injury, but for the Steeler D to step up and shutdown the offensively-challenged Cleveland squad, and for the Ravens to find a way to win on the road at Cincy to secure their first AFC North title since 2006. Other big NFL games for later in the day including Denver hosting Kansas City and needing a win to clinch the AFC West division, as well as the Dallas Cowboys heading to face the New York Giants, in a showdown for the NFC East crown.

With a few match-ups set for NBA and NCAA Basketball, and one match-up for NHL Hockey, you can find a number of interesting online sports betting looks outside of Football today, should you choose to want some diversity on your betting lines this afternoon and evening. Games to look forward to in the NBA include the Chicago Bulls hosting the Memphis Grizzlies, the Los Angeles Lakers looking for a 4th straight win taking on Denver tonight, and Portland looks to make it 4-0 on the year with a tough scrap against the Los Angeles Clippers. Check out good games in NCAA Basketball as well, with Minnesota taking on #16 Michigan, #1 Syracuse on the road against a good DePaul team, and Cincinnati challenging #22 Pittsburgh in what should be a hotly contested, close contest in Pittsburgh tonight. With so much great opportunity for online sportsbook betting at the Betonline Sportsbook or any one of the best online sportsbooks reviewed here on our website, you can ring in the New Year with hopefully a few clutch wagers, and a bit of extra cash in your pocket for the biggest bowl day of the College Football season set for tomorrow!
