While the schedule for the NBA and NCAA Basketball leagues remain shortened ahead of the weekend, tonight’s hoops action features a number of quality games for online sports betting tonight, starting with a pair of great match-up in the NBA. As I rotate around my holdings at the top sportsbooks reviewed here, today’s wagers are going down at Betonline Sportsbook, one of the best sportsbooks in the business for their clean website, competitive betting lines and solid customer service. Digging right into the action set for Thursday night, we should all be grabbing a piece of the classic battle between the league-leading Chicago Bulls, who will host the Boston Celtics in an exciting match-up between the scrappy, young boys from the Windy City, and the veterans from the Garden. While Boston hasn’t found too much success on the road this season with a 4-5 record away from home, and likely will face a tough challenge against a stingy Bulls defense that has led their team to a 10-1 record at the United Center, nonetheless this match-up should make for an exciting pick at Betonline in the first wager of the day. As Chicago is a relatively strong 7 1/2 point favorite against the spread and has -350 odds to win straight up on the money line, the best bet on this game may indeed fall to the over/under, currently sitting at 180 1/2 points, which is reasonably low even in consideration of the defensive prowess of both squads. Though Chicago will be once again playing without star guard Derrick Rose tonight, the two teams managed 186 points over the weekend in Boston (a 95-91 win for the Celtics), but with Chicago’s tough home form and Boston’s recent lack of success there (they’ve lost 3 in a row), I’ll bank on Chicago to pick up the win, covering the points on the spread.
Moving towards another top match-up in the NBA this evening, the Los Angeles Clippers will try to maintain their solid recent road form as they head to the Rose Garden to face the Portland Trail Blazers, who have been struggling a bit at 4-6 in their last 10 games due to their inability to play well away from home. While Portland has been solid at home going 11-4 this year, they will be without star forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who would be an essential component against the high-powered Clippers’ attack led by Blake Griffin. Without Aldridge’s presence in the middle, and without his scoring contributions, I’ll look to the Clippers to beat the spread at -2 points and get back on their road winning ways with their 7th victory in 8 games away from home.
Switching gears to NCAA Basketball action, a couple of great conference showdowns get underway this evening, first with a good match-up in ACC play as the #5 Duke Blue Devils host the North Carolina State Wolfpack. Though Duke is perennially one of the toughest ACC teams to play against at home, they’ve shown some inconsistency at Cameron Indoor, dropping two games against ACC foes in their own building over the past month. N.C. State knows that this game is the key to a tournament berth, and sitting at 7-3 in the ACC, a win for them would put them on even ground with the Dukies, with the advantage of having beaten them on the road. In this critical match-up at home though, I don’t expect Duke to come close to dropping the ball again, especially considering the Wolfpack haven’t won at Duke in 13 tries. However, it should be a close shave on the points spread for tonight’s contest, but nonetheless I’ll take Coach K’s Blue Devils to cover the 10 points against them at home, as its high time for a better-shooting, dominant home game.
Rounding out the day’s online sports betting action at Betonline Sportsbook, turn the page over to NHL Hockey, which features a slew of 7 great games tonight. First in the east, the New York Rangers try to stay hot and secure their 5th straight win in a match-up against the visiting Chicago Blackhawks. With a victory on home ice tonight, they’ll move one point ahead of Detroit for the most points in the NHL, and with the way NYR goalie Henrik Lundqvist has been playing behind a physical and confident group led by captain Ryan Callahan, look for the Rangers to continue the woes of the Blackhawks, who have now lost 9 games in a row and won’t find any sympathy in New York. Another quality east coast match-up tonight finds the Philadelphia Flyers hosting the Buffalo Sabres, with both sides on 2-game skids and something having to give tonight, and in a tight game that both teams want to win, I’ll side with Buffalo on the 1 1/2 goals towards their favor to keep this one close even if they fail to pick up a road victory. Catch a couple other interesting match-ups as the Winnipeg Jets take on the Minnesota Wild, and the surging Calgary Flames try to take advantage of the Dallas Stars to jump into 8th place in the Western Conference playoff race on the back of a 3rd straight win.
