Elimination Game 5 for the Memphis Grizzlies vs. Los Angeles Clippers

The Memphis Grizzlies head home for Game 5 of their 7-game series against the Los Angeles Clippers, with the hopes of simply staying alive one more day down 3-1 overall against the upstart ‘Lob City’. With game-time set for 9:30 PM ET at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee, once again sports fans get treated to a NBA Playoffs elimination game that is sure to bring plenty of excitement to online sports betting at one of the best online sportsbooks reviewed here.

Though the games in this Western Conference first round series have been close each and every night with just 3.5 points on average being the margin of victory, Memphis’ inability to shut down the Clippers towards the end of 48 minutes has truly been the story to follow, as in all three losses they’ve had the opportunity to close out the game with the ‘W’. Game 4 could perhaps be the most deflating game for the Grizzlies, who have managed to lose games in just about every way possible. Game 1 – Memphis gave up a whopping 27 points to lose by 1, 99-98. Game 3 – Memphis rallied from a first-half deficit in the third quarter, only to fall flat in the 4th with 15 points for a total night’s shooting of 40%. And finally in Game 4 – Memphis overcame a 10-point deficit in regulation time to push OT, only to see Chris Paul play hero for the Clippers after Blake Griffin fouled out. The Grizzlies are quite simply running out of ways they can lose games, so fortunately for them, being back at home where they managed a solid 26-7 record has got to be a welcome sight and a place where Memphis can regain their form in this Western Conference showdown.

Key factors for the Grizzlies at home start with the outside shooting of Mike Conley, Rudy Gay and O.J. Mayo, who when on collectively from the perimeter are extremely dangerous. In Game 1 alone, this trio combined for 54 points on 10-for-13 from beyond the arc. However, there has been plenty of inconsistency since that effort, with the Griz failing to shoot better than 31 percent from 3-point range in the next three games. The improved Clippers defense has certainly been a large factor in that reduction of success for Memphis from the outside, but in order for the Grizzlies to overcome the Clippers, they’ll need to get their clutch shots coming from their 3 hottest hands. Another huge part of Memphis’ game lies in the abilities of Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph, who simply have to take control in the paint and stand up big in what will be another very physical, scrappy affair. With the Clippers effectively wearing down the bigger Grizzlies 4’s and 5’s, forcing Zach Randolph to move towards jump shots and Marc Gasol struggling to contend with the more aggressive Blake Griffin, something has to change in order for Memphis to stay in this game late. Step-up play must come from the Grizzlies’ bench, in the form of Marreese Speights, Hamed Haddadi and Dante Cunningham, who must provide good minutes so that Gasol and Randolph can be properly set for the battle of the 4th quarter. Without those two guys at full strength near the end, the door will be wide open for the Clippers to steal another game out from under Memphis.

On the flipside of the elimination equation the Los Angeles Clippers couldn’t be happier with how things have gone through 4 games. With two straight wins at home and 3 chances to beat the Memphis Grizzlies, the Clips will undoubtedly stick to their game plan of playing hard-nosed, aggressive defense, and letting Chris Paul and Blake Griffin dominate the flow of the game. With 57 points between the two LA phenoms, there’s no question who has to be on their A-game tonight on the road in what will be a very hostile environment. In addition to the stars however, much of the game will hinge on the battle inside the paint for Los Angeles, meaning that alongside Blake Griffin, Reggie Evans and DeAndre Jordan have to be contributing factors. Jordan has been especially inconsistent, starting the series off with 25+ minutes on average in two games, with 5.5 points and 7.5 rebounds during that span. He’s been lackluster since especially on defense, with the Grizzlies owning the battle of the offensive glass when he’s on the court. Reggie Evans has also been a non-factor with just 6 points in 3 games, but at least has been big on the boards and on defense with 4 steals and 19 rebounds in the last two Clippers wins. For LA to be assured of victory, help has to be given to the Lob City stars, and it starts in the paint where the biggest, hardest-fought battle will commence.

Betting Lines for the Los Angeles Clippers vs. Memphis Grizzlies at Betonline Sportsbook.

With their backs up against the wall, the Memphis Grizzlies get the nod as the favorite on the money line tonight, with -285 odds to win straight up. The Los Angeles Clippers on the other hand will try to close out and earn underdog pickers a great payday, with +240 odds going on Chris Paul and the gang.

Against the spread, Memphis comes in as a -6 point favorite at -110 odds, while Clippers pickers get +6 points to play with at identical odds. If Memphis can actually close out another game at home like they did in Game 2, (or hold onto a massive 20+ point lead like the one they squandered in Game 1), spread pickers wagering on the Grizzlies will find themselves rewarded. However, with Los Angeles set on tasting the Conference semifinals for the first time in 6 years, expect the younger, more physical Clippers to make a solid push towards the end of the game that will see them inside 6 points either way at the Game’s conclusion.

For the final betting options at Betonline Sportsbook, the total points line sits at a relatively low 182 1/2 points. With 3 of the 4 games surpassing this points total, and both games played at Memphis going over 195 total points, this could be a solid betting line to jump on, taking the over position. There should be plenty of fast-paced action as Los Angeles tries to wear down the Grizzlies, and expectations should run high that a flurry of late 3-pointers in a close game could very well see the over/under pushed without much difficulty.

No matter which way you wager on tonight’s elimination Game 5, there’s no doubt that adding in a wager or two will boost the excitement of a great showdown between two fantastic basketball teams. Hop on down to the Betonline Sportsbook, secure your wagers, and sit back tonight for what will be one of the most highly contested sporting events of the week.
