It’s a relatively quiet day on the sports front this Thursday, with Major League Baseball slowing down its offerings ahead of the upcoming new weekend series and NHL Hockey taking a two-day hiatus after last night’s exciting Game 1 between the Los Angeles Kings and the New Jersey Devils, however with the NBA Conference Finals alive and well, sports fans should certainly have something to get behind for wagering at one of the top reviewed sportsbooks found at CR. Jumping right in to the first wagering option of the day, the NBA Western Conference Finals showdown between the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder is what’s on everyone’s radar, as the series shifts to Oklahoma City for a crucial Game 3. There is no question this is do-or-die time for the Thunder, who after dropping the first two games of this series only have a 6 percent chance at making it to the NBA finals now. Historically, they’ll have a zero percent chance if they fail to win on their home court tonight, against a Spurs team that seems almost unstoppable in their quest for a fifth NBA championship. It’s been impressive to see defense completely go out the window, and San Antonio still remain the team with the advantage, especially considering the high-scoring offensive capabilities of an OKC team led by Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. What the Spurs have been doing though, is getting everyone in the line-up involved in the scoring, as only Tony Parker has averaged more than 20 points per game in the playoffs (20.5) and only 3 players are averaging in double figures, but still the team is putting up an impressive 104.1 points per night. Oklahoma’s lack of defense certainly didn’t have much of a problem during the regular season, but against a team like San Antonio, who put up 120 points in regulation against them on Tuesday night, it’s becoming evident that even a high-scoring team like the Thunder, who are averaging just over 100 points per game during this year’s playoffs, cannot hope to contend merely by trying to outscore their opponent. Something simply has to change in the game plan for OKC tonight at home, where the Thunder are favorites to win at -190 odds straight up, and get 4 points to try and cover against the spread at -110 odds. For Spurs backers that see no sign of letting up though, this could be a great opportunity to continue to roll with San Antonio on their record-setting winning streak, as they’ll have +165 odds as underdogs despite not losing a game since April 11th.
Checking out the three options for Major League Baseball bets at Betonline today, there’s a couple of quality pitching match-ups that stand out for betting on sports, in the series finale between the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox, as well as the finish of a 4-game set between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Milwaukee Brewers. For the first pairing tonight in the Sox v. Tigers match-up, catch a battle between Detroit’s Max Scherzer (4-3, 5.67 ERA) and Josh Beckett (4-4, 4.15 ERA), as both pitchers continue to recover from rough starts to the 2012 campaign. Beckett has been markedly improving over his last three outings, allowing just 3 runs in 21 and 2/3 innings of work, while Sherzer has also stepped up, striking out 24 batters in his last two outings, keeping the runs to 3 or less in his last two showings. As Boston looks to sweep the Tigers out of town though, this looks to be a great opportunity to bank on Beckett and the home team, who at -135 odds straight up and +145 odds to cover 1.5 runs, look to be a solid wagering opportunity tonight. For the second match-up, a rare 4-game road sweep for the Brewers is on the horizon against the MLB’s top team the LA Dodgers, who have failed to generate offense at home without Matt Kemp in the line-up. After missing the first two games and reinjuring a hamstring last night, Kemp will once again be out of the lineup tonight, and once again LA may struggle to put runs on the board unless they can find a way to get to Zach Greinke, who was rocked in his last road start at Arizona on Saturday (2.1 innings, 7 earned runs allowed). For LA, starting pitcher Chad Billingsley has been steadily improving over his last 3 starts, and will need to be on point for the Dodgers, who haven’t scored more than 3 runs in the 3 games so far during this series. Los Angeles will be a slight underdog at +106 odds to win straight up, and Milwaukee a -116 favorite to win despite Greinke’s shaky road form. Make sure to catch all the odds for this game, as well as those on the Tigers v. Boston series finale (not to forget the other game available today between the Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies), and choose your bets carefully on a day of shortened MLB offerings.
