NBA All-Star Weekend Props

Even though the NBA is on its All-Star break, that doesn’t mean that aren’t profitable wagers to be had. Of course, bettors can take advantage of the lines for the game, but as you know, there are plenty of preliminary events going on today – for which there are prop bets available – and there are also prop bets available for the game itself. So, have no fear, there is ample betting opportunity today before the All-Star Game even tips off. Here are some of the best prop bets for All-Star Weekend.

Sprite Slam Dunk Contest and Foot Locker Three-Point Contest

I covered these two events in a blog earlier this week, so check this link out for those picks. To sum up, I liked Terrance Ross at 7/2 and Jeremy Evans at 6/1 for the dunk contest, and Stephen Curry in the three-point shootout at 9/4 odds.

Sears Shooting Stars Challenge

Taking place today, the Sears Shooting Stars event boasts three-on-three match-ups with each team featuring a current NBA star, an NBA legend and a WNBA star. Here is each team and the moneyline for each squad winning the event:

Team Harden (James Harden, Tina Thompson, Sam Cassell) +180
Team Westbrook (Russell Westbrook, Maya Moore, Robert Horry) +185
Team Bosh (Chris Bosh, Swin Cash, Dominique Wilkins) +325
Team Lopez (Brook Lopez, Tamika Catchings, Muggsy Bogues) +375

Team Harden is the odds-on favorite for one obvious reason – since James Harden is a hometown player with the event in Houston, he will have an upper hand on the other three squads. However, if you’ve ever watched this event in the past, then you know it’s all for fun and that the NBA stars don’t really like to steal the show. They like to give the WNBA players and the legends a chance to shine and that’s something the fans like to see to. So, at the end of the day, the NBA stars aren’t as much of a factor as you think they would be. Knowing this, I like Bosh’s team a lot more for a lot more value as well. We know Swin Cash has some moves and if Dominique Wilkins still has a little game, the Bosh team very might well take it down. Take team Bosh at a profitable +325 here.

Taco Bell Skills Challenge

The Taco Bell Skills challenge involves the league’s top guards participating in various timed passing and ball handling drills. Here are the players and the odds:

Jrue Holiday (East)
Tony Parker (West)
Damian Lillard (West)
Jeremy Lin (West)
Brandon Knight (East)
Jeff Teague (East)

Now, this event is obviously much different from the previous one in that it’s an individual game pitting NBA stars against one another, so you know that it will be much more competitive and you’ll be able to trust the odds a little more.

We have to look serious at Jeremy Lin here. As the hometown hero, he’ll have a good shot with the crowd cheering him on and since he won’t be defended by anyone, he’ll have a chance to show off his passing and dribbling skills. Plus 17/4 odds makes for solid money-making opportunities.

The top three favorites might seem attractive in this event, but keep in mind that they are great scoring guards and this game is more about passing and ball handling. That’s why I like Lin at 17/4 and even Brandon Knight as a dark horse at 6/1. Plus, how great of a story would it be if Lin took this thing down after not making the All-Star squad in Houston? It would be pretty special indeed.
