Tuesday NHL Quick Picks: March 5

After a meager four-game offering yesterday, the NHL is serving up a hefty 11-game slate today for bettors to feast on. And to help you keep up with all the action, we’re offering up our quick picks for Tuesday’s games, so check ’em out!

Tampa Bay Lightning +1.5 at New Jersey Devils -1.5

Both teams are coming into this match-up on losing streaks, but Tampa Bay has kept things close, losing their last two games to Boston and Pittsburgh by just one goal, while the Devils are on a nasty five-game slide that hasn’t yielded any redeeming results. Take Tampa to cover +1.5.

Montreal Canadiens -1.5 at New York Islanders +1.5

The Canadiens have earned a point in 11 straight games, but lost in overtime the last time they faced off against the Islanders. The Islanders have struggled defensively, allowing nearly 3.5 goals per game, but they should be stronger at home. Take New York to cover +1.5.

Boston Bruins -1.5 at Washington Capitals +1.5

Although the Bruins are coming off a loss, they have still been one of the most consistently effective teams on both sides of the ice. Look for Boston to cover -1.5 in the win.

Buffalo Sabres +1.5 at Carolina Hurricanes -1.5

The Hurricanes will be without their starting goaltender Cam Ward, but they’ve had plenty of success against Buffalo already this season, winning the first two meetings and they’ve been hot lately during their three-game winning streak. Stick with those trends and take Carolina to cover -1.5.

Edmonton Oilers -1.5 at Columbus Blue Jackets +1.5

Although the Blue Jackets have one of the worst records in the league, they’ll have a good chance to win at home against the team – the Oilers – who are leading the league in shots on goal allowed. Take Columbus to cover +1.5.

Philadelphia Flyers +1.5 at New York Rangers -1.5

This should be one of the most evenly matched games of the day, which makes the Flyers the more attractive pick at +1.5. Even though Philly is on the road, take the Flyers to cover +1.5. This one should be close.

Winnipeg Jets +1.5 at Florida Panthers -1.5

The Panthers – who own one of the NHL’s worst records – have the edge today against the Jets for some unknown reason. Considering the Panthers have one of the league’s worst defenses (3.7 goals per game allowed) and one of the league’s worst offenses (2.2 goals per game), I don’t see any reason not to take Winnipeg here, even on the road. Bet the Jets to cover +1.5.

Colorado Avalanche +1.5 at Detroit Red Wings -1.5

The Avalanche have started to pick up the pace with two straight wins, but they’ve been absolutely atrocious on the road as losers of their last five. Look for Detroit to take advantage and cover -1.5 in the win.

Minnesota Wild +1.5 at Chicago Blackhawks -1.5

While the Wild have performed slightly below expectations, the Blackhawks have performed better than anyone could have imagined. The Hawks will take their incredible 22-game point streak into their home battle with the Wild today and there’s no way we should go against them while they are this hot. Take Chicago to cover -1.5 in the win.

San Jose Sharks +1.5 at Vancouver Canucks -1.5

The Sharks defeated the Canucks earlier this season, but that was back when San Jose was briefly the hottest team in the league. They’ve dropped off significantly since then, especially on the road. Take Vancouver to cover -1.5 today.

St. Louis Blues +1.5 at Los Angeles Kings -1.5

With St. Louis struggling and the Kings coming off a win, the defending champs should have enough momentum to carry them to a victory today. Take L.A. to cover -1.5.
