Pac-12, Big East, Mountain West Conference Tournaments

With Selection Sunday less than a week away, it’s time to find out who reigns supreme in each major conference. Over the course of the next couple days we will see who those teams are, as some of the biggest conference tournaments are about to get underway. Here’s at a look at the futures odds for the Pac-12, Big East and Mountain West Conference tournaments, courtesy of

Arizona State
Washington State
Oregon State

Although UCLA will come in with the No. 1 seed, Arizona is getting the nod as the overall favorite at 2/1. The Wildcats have spent much of the year in the top spot, but they’ve proved to be inconsistent this season.

The Bruins are a solid pick here at 4/1. They’ve come in to the tourney on a bit of a surge to claim the No. 1 seed and they’ve got plenty of young talent, led by Shabazz Muhammad. There’s no reason the Bruins couldn’t take this thing down.

However, a better value pick would be the Cal Golden Bears at 9/1. The Bears are certainly the hottest team in the conference right now as winners of nine of their last 11 games. Despite their late surge, they are still on the bubble, meaning they’ll have even more to play for during this tournament, as they need that automatic bid to the NCAA Tourney. Look for Cal to make a move and play inspired.

Big East

Can Louisville go back-to-back in the Big East?
Notre Dame
St. John’s
South Florida
Seton Hall

Louisville has been flexing its muscles lately and as the defending Big East Tournament champions, they deserve the love ¬†they are getting from odds makers, but with the Big East there are so many strong teams capable of winning that it’s hard to put too much stock in any one team, especially at small value odds.

A great value pick is Marquette at 10/1. Marquette has also been playing great lately, cracking the top 15 in the AP Poll last week and it is a squad with plenty of tournament experience. Look for the Golden Eagles to make some noise in the Big East and in the NCAA Tournament this year.

Mountain West

New Mexico
Colorado State
San Diego State
Boise State
Air Force
Fresno State

The Mountain West is a supremely underrated conference with five teams that could go to the NCAA tournament, however, those are really the only five that have a legitimate shot at winning the conference, so in the MWC we can narrow our choices down quite a bit.

New Mexico has led the way in the MWC for much of the season, so the Lobos seem like a reasonable selection at 11/4. The Rebels of UNLV are also deserving of their favorite status, as they’ve added freshman Anthony Bennett this year to their already stack squad and that talent with likely take them far.

But value wise, I like Colorado State at 3/1. The Rams are not known for having a great basketball program, but they’ve been impressive in and out of conference play this season with a 24-7 record overall and a 11-5 mark in the MWC, good for enough for the No. 2 seed. Take the Rams here to make some money.
