NFC West 2013 Win totals and predictions

The NFC West will be one of the NFL’s most competitive divisions this season. Not only are the San Francisco 49ers expected to battle for the top spot in the division, but the Seattle Seahawks and St. Louis Rams are expected to be there battling as well.

San Francisco was considered by most to be the most talented and deepest team in the NFL last season. That became very evident when the team switched Colin Kaepernick to the quarterback spot taking over for Alex Smith. The team never missed a beat and nearly pulled of a win in the Super Bowl.

During the offseason, they added Anquan Boldin at wide receiver, who was an important acquisition now that Michael Crabtree has a torn Achilles.

To shore up their secondary, which was burned too often during the postseason, the 49ers signed Nnamdi Asmoguha at corner and Eric Reid at free safety. The 49ers will return a string running game, outstanding offensive line and a tough defensive front seven.

Win total: 11 Over-135 Pick: OVER

The Seattle Seahawks will have second year sensation Russell Wilson back at quarterback and add to that the best secondary in the league and you have a recipe for victories.

Seattle needed a top-notch wide receiver and during the offseason traded for Percy Harvin. The Seahawks made their strong defensive unit even stronger with the signing of Cliff Avril at defensive end.

As if they needed more corners, the Seahawks added Antoine Winfield to give them even more depth at that position.

The Seahawks will have a tough schedule with Houston and Indianapolis back to back, but should be there at the end.

Win total: 10 Over -120 Pick: Over

The St. Louis Rams are an unknown this season. Last season with the strength of the 49ers and the reemergence of the Seahawks, it was easy to forget that the Rams were 4-1-1 in the division.

St. Louis picked up tight end Jared Cook and Jake Long for the offensive line. Both will start immediately for the Rams. They drafted Tavon Austin at wide receiver to give quarterback Sam Bradford a long-range weapon.

The Rams defensive front four highlighted by Michael Brockers is one of the best in the league. If the passing game can improve, look for the Rams to surprise.

Win total: 6.5 Over -110 Pick: Over

The Arizona Cardinals lost 11 of their final 12 games after starting out 4-0 last season. The Cardinals traded for Carson Palmer to sure up the quarterback spot and Larry Fitzgerald is still one of the league’s best wide outs. The offensive line was strengthened during the offseason. On paper, the overall team looks much stronger, but they have the seventh toughest schedule in the league.

Win total: 5.5 Under -120 Pick: Under
