Dodgers top World Series Futures, Red Sox Move Up

The Major League Baseball’s regular season is winding to a close with just 18 to 20 games remaining for most teams.

In the latest odds for the World Series futures on sites such as topbet, betonline, Bovada and, a new team has taken the top spot in the American League, while the same team remains favored to win the championship.

Since the start of the season, the Detroit Tigers had held the top spot to win the American League pennant and represent the league in the World Series. The Tigers were even favored to win the World Series at one point earlier in the season.

Detroit still holds 5 to 1 odds on Bovada to win the World Series in October, but have now been replaced by the Boston Red Sox as the favorite in the American League. Boston owns the best record in the majors and now is the favorite to win the AL pennant at 7 to 4.

The Red Sox also have the second shortest odds at 4 to 1, to win the World Series, trailing just the favorite the Los Angeles Dodgers at 3 to 1.

Boston’s rise to the top over the course of the season can be attributed to many factors. One of which is Jon Lester, the veteran southpaw hurler, who has turned his season around. Over the past 67 plus innings pitched, Lester has given up just three home runs and has an ERA of 2.53.

Prior to that, over his first 125 plus innings pitched, he had an ERA of 4.58 and allowed 15 home runs.

The favorite overall to win the fall classic is Los Angeles. They were recently swept by the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend, but have returned to win two straight against Arizona and reduce their magic number for the division title to seven.

The Reds, in their sweep of the Dodgers, defeated the Dodgers’ two best starters Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw and held the offense of the Dodgers to only seven runs in three games.

The Reds might just be a tough matchup for Los Angeles if they qualify for the postseason and meet in October.
