A Pair of Picks and the Heisman Watch

Week 7 of the NCAA football season has some intriguing matchups with two that are interesting for bettors, while the Heisman Trophy race continues.

Boise State visits the Utah State Aggies this week and Boise State in the early line is a 7-point favorite.

That might be surprising to some, but Chuckie Keeton the quarterback for Utah State went down with a knee injury and is out for the season. He had 17 touchdown passes and only 2 interceptions prior to his injury. If that was not enough, the Aggies Joe Hill, their second leading rusher was also lost last week to an injury that ended his season.

Boise State was idle last week and has been practicing hard for this matchup, and will come in fresh. The Broncos also are 20-8 ATS as a favorite on the road over the past five seasons. Take Boise State (-7).

In another great matchup Bowling Green hosts Mississippi State. This season Bowling Green is 5-1. However, in their only game against a school in the BCS, they were crushed by Indiana 42-10. Mississippi State knows if they want to be in the bowl hunt down the line, they must play well in this game and win big. Take Mississippi State (-10.5)

Heisman Race

Leading the Heisman Trophy race heading into week 7 is Marcus Mariota the quarterback from Oregon. He had a hand in seven touchdowns in the Oregon rout of Colorado. Mariota threw five touchdowns passes in the game and ran for a pair himself.

This season Mariota has thrown 14 touchdown passes without a single interception. He has seven scores rushing and his per carry average is 12.1. Mariota’s current odds are 4 to 1 on most books like topbet and betonline.

Of course, it goes without saying that Johnny Manziel is close to the top in the Heisman race, but thus far Mariota seems to have the edge. Manziel was idle this past week and will face a tough SEC matchup at Ole Miss this weekend. Manziel’s current odds are 5 to 1.

Tajh Boyd the Clemson Tigers quarterback has 14 touchdown passes and 2 interceptions. He threw for five touchdowns last weekend against Syracuse on the road. Boyd has also rushed for four TDs. Boyd’s current odds are 7 to 1.

Teddy Bridgewater the quarterback for Louisville has 16 touchdown passes with only one interception on the season. He remains unbeaten thus far on the season. Bridgewater’s odds are also 7 to 1 on Bovada.

Moving into the top five is Jameis Winston the quarterback for FSU. He turned in a spectacular individual performance last week against Maryland, which was unbeaten prior to playing the Seminoles.

Winston led FSU to a rout of Maryland 63-0 with 393 yards passing and five touchdowns. He now has 17 touchdowns on the season to only 2 interceptions. Winston has also scored two touchdowns rushing. Winston’s odds have dropped to 8 to 1 on many books like topbet and sportsbook.com.

Others in the mix include Lache Seastrunk at Baylor, Aaron Murray at Georgia, A.J. McCarron at Alabama and Brett Hundley at UCLA.
