Oklahoma once an Underdog now the Favorite

Things can change fast in college football; just ask Mack Brown and his Texas Longhorns. During the summer, the Longhorns were favored in their rivalry matchup with the Oklahoma Sooners, however now they are getting a number of points as underdogs.

Texas enters their Red River Rivalry matchup on Saturday with the Sooners at 3-2 SU and 2-3 ATS, while the Sooners are 5-0 SU and 3-2 ATS. Over the past two games played head-to-head Oklahoma has won both outscoring Texas to the tune of 118-38.

All trends lead one to believe Oklahoma will trounce the Longhorns again this season. Over the last 30 days, the point spread has grown in dramatic way.

At this point, the Sooners are laying 14 points, with the point total for the over/under sitting on 56.5.

Online sports books such as Bovada, sportsbook.com, topbet and betonline posted Texas as a slight favorite when the first lines were released during the season.

However, that has changed drastically with most books having Oklahoma favored last Sunday by 12.5. During the week, it has been bet up to 14 and could go higher before Saturday’s midday kickoff.

Oklahoma is 3-0 SU and ATS over the past three meetings with Texas. The total has cashed OVER in four out of the past five Red River Rivalry matchups. Texas is 3-7 ATS over their past 10 games as an underdog.

Case McCoy starts for his second consecutive game for Texas due to David Ash still feeling the effects of a concussion. McCoy was 26 for 45 for 224 passing yards and 1 touchdown in the Longhorns’ win against Iowa State 31-30. Most consider him slightly less talented than Ash with little ability to hook up down field with the wide receiver threats Texas has.

Texas’ problems do not end on offense. Defensively they are ranked No. 117 against the run.

The lack of run defense for Texas will play into the hands of the Oklahoma offense as it is averaging nearly 250 yards per game rushing.

Oklahoma beat Notre Dame two weeks ago, but barely defeated TCU at home last weekend. Blake Bell has done well at quarterback completing 69% of passes, has six touchdowns and not a single interception.

The one weakness on the Sooners is the defense, which struggled against TCU and will not have Corey Nelson its best linebacker.

The last three Red River Rivalry games have ended OVER, the Longhorns are 2-3 ATS and an OVER team.

Pick: Texas plus the 14 points and the OVER
