The USC Trojans head to the Pacific Northwest to face the Oregon State Beavers. The Trojans defense has picked up, but its offense is nearly non-existent, while the Beavers have one of the best offenses in the country and a somewhat porous defense.
Oregon State is 6-2 SU and 4-4 ATS this season and looks to come back strong following a loss last week to Stanford.
USC is 5-3 SU and 3-5 ATS and is coming off a win against Utah 19-3 in a defensive struggle.
The line currently has Oregon State at home as the favorite -5, with the point total sitting on 52.5. Last Sunday sports books such as betonline and topbet opened the line at -3 for Oregon State, but bettors bet it up to -4.5 and then -5.
The total has been around the 52 to 52.5 range the whole week on Bovada and other sportsbooks.
The two schools have not played since 2010. The last meeting was won by Oregon State 36-7 at home. The Beavers are 5-0 ATS over the last five meetings against USC at home.
The Trojans are 3-7 ATS over their past 10 games. The OVER has cashed 6-0, in the Beavers last six games played in November.
USC’s defense played less than solid defense against Arizona and Arizona State, but for the past two weeks has played outstanding.
Against Notre Dame in a loss, the Trojans allowed just 295 yards, but offensively could not score in the second half.
Against Utah, the Trojans gave up just 201 yards in the game, while forcing the Utes into four turnovers. The Trojans won 19-3 but needed four field goals as they could score just one touchdown.
Sean Mannion leads the Oregon State offensive attack. Prior to losing last week to Stanford, the Beavers had won five straight averaging 46 points a game and giving up 27.
Mannion has 30 touchdown passes and just 3 interceptions. He has thrown for more than 3,000 yards, but his team’s rushing attack is nearly non-existent.
This could be Mannion’s toughest test this season against the USC defense and will be the key to the game’s outcome.
The Trojans have not covered a single spread this season on the road and come in with key injuries on offense and problems scoring following a tough game against Utah and a short week.
Oregon State is 7-1 SU and ATS following a loss.
