One thing you know you can rely on this time of year is that there abound to be college football games on during the middle of the week. That’s exactly the case this week as we have one tonight and three more tomorrow night. Check out the details below.
College Football Tonight
Northern Illinois (-3) at Toledo – This is the final test for Northern Illinois as they’ll face one-win Western Michigan in their finale. Yes, they will have the MAC Championship game, but there is still work to be done for the Huskies.
Toledo has had a very nice season at 7-3 and could force a three-way tie for the MAC West Division title. Should the Rockets win, Northern Illinois, Ball State and the Rockets would have 6-1 marks with one game to play. Should all three finish at 7-1, it may go down a long way on the MAC tie-breaker list find a participant in the MAC Championship Game.
NIU goes as QB Jordan Lynch goes and he typically goes quite well. He deserves more Heisman attention based on his stats not just last year but this year especially. He’s proven to be more than a flash in the pan.
The Rockets will rely on their 14th-ranked running attack to keep Lynch and the Huskies’ offense off the field. NIU is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven trips to Toledo but I think they win and will cover even on the road.
College Football Thursday Night
Rutgers (+14.5) at Central Florida – The Scarlet Knights are 5-4 on the season but have lost three of their last four games. Central Florida is fresh off of an amazing escape in Philadelphia where they barely beat Temple last Saturday.
I believe that game will serve as a wakeup call that nothing is guaranteed for them. With an opportunity to go to a BCS bowl as the American Athletic Conference champion, I don’t think we’ll see any more slip ups from the Knights.
Rutgers has very winnable games with UConn and South Florida following the UCF game but the Scarlet Knights would love nothing more than to become bowl eligible with a victory at Central Florida. Rutgers is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games while the Golden Knights are 8-1 straight up in their last nine home games.
I believe Central Florida wins but I like Rutgers to cover.
Rice (-17) at UAB – Rice is currently tied at 5-1 with North Texas in Conference USA’s West Division and will need a loss by the Mean Green to overtake them for a shot to play in the C-USA Title Game. Be that as it may, Rice is bowl bound with a 7-3 record and they will look to add to that against a very disappointing UAB team.
The Owls rushing attack is ranked 15th in the country with over 242 yards per game. The Blazer give up over 180 yards rushing per game so I think you’ll see a lot of running from the Owls. UAB is 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games while Rice is 6-17 straight up in their last 23 road games.
Take the Owls to win big and cover.
UNLV (Pick’em) at Air Force – At 5-5 UNLV is looking for that all important sixth win in order to become bowl eligible. At 2-8, the Air Force Academy is still searching for their first Mountain West Conference victory.
The Rebels are coming off two fairly close losses and are desperate for a victory. They are very average across the board in terms of running and passing but those numbers should be good enough to get past the Falcons.
Air force will still pose problems with their rushing attack which averages over 277 yards per game but I like the Rebels to get their sixth win in this one.
