NBA Rookie of the Year Futures Released with Parker on Top

Last week’s NBA draft was one of the deepest in a number of years. The top ten picks in the draft easily could all compete for top rookie honors in the NBA next season.

This fall each one of the picks from top to bottom will get their opportunity to start their professional careers in the NBA.

There is always a popular betting prop on Bovada, betonline, sportsbook.com and topbet that bettors look forward to following the NBA draft.

The option is the futures for the NBA Rookie of the Year.

The top player picked in the draft was Andrew Wiggins from the Kansas Jayhawks who was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Nevertheless, odds makers have selected Jabari Parker the second overall pick in the draft, as the odds on favorite to win Rookie of the Year honors.

The just drafted Milwaukee Bucks player is going off at 13 to 5 as the favorite for this year’s rookie award.

The overall first choice, Wiggins is tied for second in the rookie futures at 8 to 1 with Julius Randle.

The rookie of the year award does not always end up in the hands of the favorite. Last season the rookie of the year went to Michael Carter-Williams. The point guard for the Philadelphia 76ers was at 12 to 1 at his highest prior to the start of the season, which was below a number of players.

Once free agency opens on Tuesday signings and new trades should take place that could include some of the first round draft picks.

This could mean the balance of power in a conference or division could be changed and could affect the playing time of some of these rookies.

James Opting Out Changes Futures for 2014-15 NBA Championship

The decision of one player has changed the 2015 NBA Championship futures in the time it took that player to say, “Opt out.”

Upon the news that Miami Heat sensation LeBron James will use his opt out clause to explore free agency has created speculation as to where the league’s best all-around player will play next season.

James’ wife posted an Instagram that mentioned Cleveland and almost instantly sports books such as Bovada and topbet shortened the NBA Championship futures for 2014-15 for the Cavaliers.

As soon as James announced he wanted to explore all of his options, bookmakers on betonline and sportsbook.com started receiving wagers on Cleveland prompting adjustments to the championship price of the team.

Back when the lines were opened following the NBA Finals the Cavaliers were posted at odds of 30 to 1 to win the NBA title, only due to a possibility James could opt out of his last year with Miami and return to Cleveland.

Over this past weekend, James’ wife posted the Instagram that said home sweet home and the countdown is on.

Although one news agency said the post only related to a yearly trip the family takes back home in the summer, it caused some bookmakers to shorten the odds for the Cavaliers.

Many of the sportsbooks lowered Cleveland to 15 to 1 and by Tuesday night, the Cavaliers on some sites were as low as 10 to 1.

At the same time, books are hesitant about lengthening the price for Miami too much in order not to be exposed if James decided to remain in Miami. However, most books bumped Miami to 7 to 2 from 3 to 1.

Managers at sportsbooks said the wait now is where James will end up, which will have a huge impact on the NBA Championship futures.

Because the Cavaliers have had their line shortened, many books in turn lengthened a number of other teams’ odds.

The NBA draft on Thursday will have some affect on the futures for the NBA Championship if any large blockbuster trades are made.

However, as of July 1, James can start negotiating with any team in the NBA and where he ultimately decides to play will cause a huge ripple effect on the futures board.

In other NBA news that did not seem to have an effect on the NBA championship futures was the announcement that Tim Duncan has picked up his option for next season and will be playing his 18th season in the NBA, all with the San Antonio Spurs.

Odds Makers Release Props for James and Anthony

The San Antonio Spurs last week won the NBA Championship by defeating the Miami Heat in 5 games in the NBA Finals.

However, the betting world never stops and NBA Futures for the 2014-15 NBA Title were released within hours of the Spurs winning the title.

Now books makers like Bovada and betonline have added props as to where LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony could play next season as could be free agents in just days.

The biggest name of all possibly moving to another team is the Miami Heat’s LeBron James. James has two years left on his current contract, but he included an option to opt out of his contract at the end of the 2013-14 season, to become a free agent.

If that is what James opts to do, every team in the league will be pursuing his services. Because of that, topbet, sportsbook.com, and many other betting sites are offering odds on where James could play next season.

The heavy favorite to no one’s surprise is the Heat at 1 to 8. Which means you would have to wager $100 to win $12.50.

Following Miami, LeBron is at 6 to 1 to return to Cleveland.
Bettors must understand that just because Miami is the favorite to retain LeBron’s services it does not mean he will remain with the Heat.

It was just four years ago, that James left Cleveland to join the Heat while Cleveland at the time was a favorite at 1 to 3 to re-sign James. Miami, at the time, was the fifth best choice behind Cleveland, Chicago, the New York Knicks and the then- New Jersey Nets.

Rumors have also surfaced about James possibly signing for the San Antonio Spurs.

Another top name in the free agent world is Carmelo Anthony from the Knicks. Anthony has an opt out option he can take when free agency starts on July 1.

The favorites for Anthony are the Knicks at 11 to 10. However, Chicago is not far behind at 6 to 5. In addition, the Houston Rockets have drawn attention at 9 to 2.

Here are the top five NBA teams where James could end up next season:

Miami Heat 1 to 8
Cleveland Cavaliers 11 to 2
Houston Rockets 8 to 1
Chicago Bulls 15 to 1

Los Angeles Clippers 15 to 1

Here are the top five NBA teams where Anthony could end up next season:

New York Knicks 11 to 10
Chicago Bulls 6 to 5
Houston Rockets 9 to 2
Dallas Mavericks 10 to 1
Miami Heat 10 to 1

Futures for 2014-15 NBA Season Released

The 2013-14 NBA season concluded on Sunday night when the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Miami Heat to win the NBA Finals in 5 games.

The Spurs avenged their near miss of last season when they lost a lead in Game 6 with just 5 second left that could have earned them the championship.

Nevertheless, the Spurs after a year’s wait were able to return with nearly the same roster of players and defeat Miami.

The title is the fifth in the Spurs franchise history all under the tutelage of head coach Gregg Popovich and all with Tim Duncan in the lineup.

The Spurs first title was in Duncan’s second season in 1999 and that was followed by titles in 2003, ’05, ’07 and now ’14.

However, the NBA never stops and the betting world is always looking for updated stats and new props.

The NBA championship trophy was engraved with the name of the San Antonio Spurs as the 2013-14 Champions and just hours later the NBA futures line came out with the odds for winning the NBA championship in the 2014-15 season.

That is right, Bovada, topbet, betonline and sportsbook.com all now have the NBA futures for next season.

Topping the list is the Miami Heat. Even though the Heat could lose all, one or two of their “Big Three” to free agency, Miami has been put at 5 to 2 to win the NBA title in 2014-15. If the Heat is able to re-sign LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, they will have to add some new talent around them if they want to reach the finals for the fifth straight season.

Coming in at second in the futures list was the San Antonio Spurs at 8 to 1 tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The question mark in San Antonio is if their “Big Three” of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili can get enough out of their aging legs to win another title.

The Oklahoma City Thunder must find a shooting guard to go with their superstars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook if they hope to win the championship next season.

The Los Angeles Clippers are at 10 to 1 and in fourth on the list. The Clippers have a strong nucleus with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin and one of the best coaches in the league in Doc Rivers.

Rounding out the top five on the list was the Indiana Pacers are 15 to 1. With the best defensive team in the league, Indiana must shore up its offense to be a title contender.

Off course, these odds will change as the NBA draft takes place, high-profile free agents sign with new teams and trades are made.

Nevertheless, the NBA championship trophy is in San Antonio for less than 24 hours and thoughts are already on next season.

NBA Conference Finals Game 3 Lines and Championship Futures

The four teams left in the NBA playoffs are enjoying some much deserved rest with each having three full days of rest before embarking on Game 3 in their respective conference finals.

Paul George the leading scorer for the Indiana Pacers is questionable for Game 3 in the Eastern Conference finals due to a concussion.

The current line on the Miami vs. Indiana game is now sitting on Miami -7 on Bovada and sportsbook.com.

If that number is able to hold, it will be the biggest spread Miami has had to lay versus Indiana all season. However, the status of George is huge. Last season there were spreads on topbet and betonline as big as 8.5 for the Heat during the conference finals.

During this past regular season, the Heat was 2-0 straight up and 1-1 against the spread at home versus Indiana as a favorite of 4 and 5.5 points.

The scheduling of the playoff series, with the three days off, will be more beneficial to Indiana. The Pacers also have starters David West, Roy Hibbert and Lance Stephenson suffering from injuries.

The point total for Game 3 opened at 182.5 and has stayed there or gone up or down a half point.

With the series tied 1-1 heading to south Florida, bookmakers have released updated prices on the series with Miami at -410 and Indiana +335.

Out west, the Oklahoma City Thunder finds themselves in a big hole. Some handicappers will figure that the Thunder will come back strong from their humiliating 35-point loss in Game 2 against the San Antonio Spurs.

The Thunder now trail in the series 2-0 and have been dominated by the Spurs in both games.

Nevertheless, line makers have opened with the Thunder -2 as the favorite at home. This past season at home, Oklahoma City covered spreads against the Spurs of -2.5 and -4. However, the 4-game regular season sweep the Thunder enjoyed is long forgotten following the first two games of this series.

Currently San Antonio is sitting on -1200 with Oklahoma City at +750 for the series.

Before writing off the Thunder, one must remember they trailed 0-2 in 2012 to the Spurs and ran off 4 straight wins. However, this season they do not have Serge Ibaka due to injury and James Harden who was traded to Houston last season.

Game 3 was opened with a point total of 208, which is similar to the first two games of the series. Game 1 was OVER and Game 2 was UNDER.

Indiana Pacers Odds Double on NBA Title Futures

The Indiana Pacers must feel like their season is falling apart around them as they continue to lose games heading towards the postseason. In a week’s time, the Pacers odds of winning the NBA Championship on Bovada and sportsbooks.com have doubled.

Indiana on the season is 53-25 straight up and 35-42-1 against the spread. During the majority of the season, the Pacers looked to be the NBA’s best team as they started the season 25-5 SU before the start of the New Year.

Indiana at one time was 40-12, but since then has gone 13-13 after being the lone favorite on betonline and topbet to win the NBA Championship.

Since early March, the team is just 7-12 with poor play on both the offensive and defensive ends causing them problems. The pre-All Star break record in offensive efficiency has dropped from 102 points per 100 possessions to just 99. On defense, the same result with their rating climbing to 101 from 93.

The recent struggles the Pacers have encountered has caused online bookmakers such as Bovada to double the championship odds for Indiana from last week’s 3 to 1 to this week’s 6 to 1.

The Pacers’ odds to take the top spot in the Eastern Conference were doubled as well to 2 to 1 from even-money.

Over their past 10 games, the Pacers are 3-7 SU and 1-9 ATS. During the 10 games, the Pacers have lost two at home, where prior to this poor form they were close to unbeatable on their home court.

What is the most alarming is the two losses suffered at home were both blowouts losing 103-77 to San Antonio and 107-88 to Atlanta. Prior to the blowout loss to San Antonio, Indiana’s had won 33 of 37 home games.

From the perspective of the bettor, the doubled price for Indiana could be a pleasant sight. Even going back to the playoffs from last season, Indiana looked like a club that could contend for an NBA Title.

If bettors believe they are just going through a dry spell and can shake it off when the postseason arrives, then the present times has the Pacers at the best value since prices pre and during the early season were much shorter.

However, with the way the team is currently playing, they might not make it out of the first round against Charlotte.

NBA: Spurs have Championship Odds Shortened

Less than 10 games remain in the NBA regular season. While some teams in both conferences are battling for position in the playoffs, others are fighting to just make the post season.

In the Western Conference, three teams are within a half game of one another in the 7th, 8th and 9th place. Just 8 teams will qualify in each conference.

The Phoenix Suns are tied with the Memphis Grizzlies in the 7th and 8th place in the conference, while the Dallas Mavericks are just a half game behind both in 9th.

However, the team that has risen above the rest of the league is the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs are 58-16 SU and 41-33 ATS. They currently own the best record in the NBA and have won 18 straight games overall.

The Spurs just defeated the top team in the Eastern Conference, the Indiana Pacers by 26 points and look ready to take on the Miami Heat in a repeat of last season’s great NBA Finals.

The run of 18 straight games has shortened the odds for the Spurs for the championship to 11 to 4 from 3 to 1 last week on Bovada, topbet, betonline and sportsbook.com

One of the criticisms of San Antonio in the early part of the season was they were able to beat up on competition that was inferior and struggled when they played against playoff or title contenders.

According to Bovada, the Spurs lost the first three meetings against Oklahoma City and Houston, which suggested they might not even be good enough to make it beyond their own Western Conference.

However, with their player rotation fully in place, the veteran bunch operated by one of the best tacticians in the game Gregg Popovich is playing different.

They can show how well they have changed when they take on Oklahoma City this week on Thursday and Houston on April 14.

Wednesday night the Spurs will be favored on betonline and sportsbook.com when they play at home against the Golden State Warriors.

Indiana in the meantime is amidst a losing streak of three games and is just 4-6 over their past 10 games overall. The loss against San Antonio dropped Indiana out of first place in the Eastern Conference and moved Miami to the top.

The Pacers have four games in a row that they should win which will set up a big late season battle in south Florida versus Miami April 11.

Heat Looks to Improve Futures Odds with Win Over Portland

Is there a crack in the armor? Is the Heat playing coy with the rest of the league or is the team one step slower than the past two seasons?

Questions are being asked as the Heat are just 4-6 over their past 10 games and have slipped to No. 2 on the latest futures boards of Bovada, topbet and sportsbook.com to win the 2014 NBA title.

Miami had been closing in on the top spot in the Eastern Conference. In early March, the Heat was just a game behind the Pacers for the top spot and home court advantage throughout the conference playoffs until they lost 6 of their next 10 games.

Miami is currently 47-21 straight up and 32-35 against the spread. The Heat will host the Portland Trail Blazers who are also struggling having dropped 6 of their past 10 games overall.

LeBron James vented a bit of frustration after the last loss by the Heat to the New Orleans Pelicans 105-95. The reigning MVP said there were too many excuse being made. When something goes wrong, there is always an excuse. If the ball is turned over, it is an excuse. James said it was simple, the team was not playing good enough at this time. He called the situation very frustrating.

After the New Orleans defeat, the record for the Heat dropped to 4-6 SU over their past ten, while on betonline the team is 3-7 ATS over its past 10 games played.

Tonight, James and his teammates look to get back to their winning ways when they meet Portland. The Trail Blazers are 45-25 SU and 37-33 ATS. Portland was considered by many to be one of the top clubs in the Western Conference earlier this season, but over the past month has fallen back to fifth in the conference standings, one and a half games behind fourth place Houston.

Portland is 4-6 SU and 5-5 ATS over its past 10 games played according to data taken from Bovada. LaMarcus Aldridge the team’s leading scorer and rebounder has not played for five straight games, but Portland has managed to go 3-2 without him. With the big man in the lineup, Portland will have a far better chance against Miami.

The Heat still can grab the top seed in the conference as they have two more games head to head with Indiana, who takes on the Chicago Bulls in Chicago on Monday night.

The postseason standing for Portland is not has solid as for Miami. Currently in fifth place in the West, the Trail Blazers should not fall from the top eight, but could drop as far as 7 or 8 if they cannot tighten up their play on both ends of the court.

New Updated NBA Championship Futures Released

The NBA futures board for the NBA Championship has been updated and with the San Antonio Spurs back to full strength, their odds have shortened.

The veteran Spurs this season are 44-16 SU and 29-31 ATS. Last season San Antonio was ever so close to hoisting the Championship Trophy when they played the Miami Heat in the Finals.

However, after the Heat won the title in seven games, many observers in the NBA, including online sites such as Bovada, betonline and topbet wondered if the aging veterans’ window of opportunity had shut.

That does not seem to be the case. San Antonio now sits in fourth on the latest futures board at 10 to 1. The Spurs have all of their players healthy. That has helped the team to play at the elite level needed to contend for an NBA title.

San Antonio has won seven of its past nine games overall including big road wins over the Los Angeles Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers.

Despites San Antonio’s championship pedigree and incredible consistency they seem to fly below radar frequency always. The team’s games are not full of highlights on sports reports nightly the way the Thunder’s or the Heat are.

Since the team has been in the mix for the championship for at least the past 10 seasons, they do not get the accolades of a new team on the block like Indiana does.

On Sunday, Tony Parker, the team’s starting point guard returned for his first game since the team had its All-Star break.

Parker said he believed his coach Gregg Popovich used the team for Parker to rest both physically and mentally. He trusts his coach’s method of rotation and how he rests his players.

Parker has played a large amount of round ball over the past three years with very little break, including in the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The Spurs trail Oklahoma City by just 1 ½ games and the two will meet once more during the regular season on April 3. San Antonio is 0-3 in its first three games head to head with the Thunder this season.

With Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker all in their 30s, there is not much more time for them to win another NBA title, but they have the chance and a good one at that, this June.

New NBA Futures have Indiana Favored to Win NBA Title

NBA odds makers released new championship odds on Monday. The Indiana Pacers moved into first place alone this week after sharing first with the Miami Heat last week. The Pacers are 40-11 on the season and hold the best record in the league. Miami is four games behind at 35-14.

The Pacers saw their odds shortened this week from 2 to 1 to 9 to 5. The Heat remained at 2 to 1 where they were last week.

This has been the first time since LeBron James came to the Heat that Miami has not been the favorite to win the NBA title on topbet, Bovada or betonline, with the exception of a playoff situation when they trailed in a particular series.

Odds makers at sportsbook.com believe that Indiana, Miami and the Oklahoma City Thunder are the three top teams in the league. However, Miami is known to take certain nights off during the regular season playing as if it were at times the preseason.

This year however, it might be harder for them to turn on the switch when they need it come playoff time, said one well-known odds maker at Bovada.

In the deep Western Conference, a team emerging as a dangerous threat to the status quo is the Phoenix Suns who are currently at 50 to 1. To start this season, the Suns were at 2000 to 1, the second longest odds in the league.

It is easy to call the Suns, coached by Jeff Hornacek, the league’s biggest surprise this season.

Phoenix likely will not push the elite teams of the conference and threaten them with elimination in a postseason series, but their 30-20 record proves they have talent and will be around making noise during the postseason.

The Suns are led by Goran Dragic with 20 points and 6 assists per game and Eric Bledsoe with 18 points and nearly 6 assists per game.

The two guards run the team’s up-tempo scoring machine that is fifth in the league in scoring at 105 points per game. However, on defense, the Suns are giving up nearly 102 points per game.

If the season ended today, Phoenix would play the Portland Trail Blazers, who the Suns have defeated two out of three times this season.

The NBA All-Star break takes place this weekend and will give every team an opportunity for four days of rest. Players who have injuries will also have time to rest without missing additional games.

The Thunder, ranked No. 1 in the Western Conference are expecting their starting point guard Russell Westbrook back from his knee surgery following the break. Westbrook has missed 25 games thus far this season.
